Visual models are powerful tools for understanding fractions. They help us see how parts relate to the whole and make fraction concepts more concrete. Let's explore each type of model:

One limitation worth knowing: pie charts get crowded fast. Seventeen equal slices are hard to draw and harder to read, so past a denominator of about 12 switch to a bar model, where extra columns stay legible. And a student who has only ever seen pie charts tends to freeze on a number line question, so it is worth showing the same fraction in all three models rather than picking a favourite.
